Best Dance Movies in India!!!

Dance is a form of performance art in which the body is moved in a rhythmic manner usually in response to music and to express an idea or emotion. Dance enables us to understand ourselves better and about the world around us. In India, there are different types of dance forms that are practiced such as Hip-hop,  Zumba, Kathak, Bharatnatyam and many more.

When it comes to dancing in Indian movies, it is an essential creative element, along with Music, that plays an important role in the Indian film narrative! Bollywood has been using music and dance as a requisite feature to tell its stories. But, there are few movies that have made solely to celebrate the art of dance. Here, we shall be focussing on such movies in the list below:

ABCD: Any Body Can Dance (ABCD) is an Indian 3D dance film directed and choreographed by the famous choreographer Remo D'Souza. It was released in 2013 worldwide in multiple languages with a lot of positive reviews from critics and audience alike. Famous actors like Prabhu Deva, Ganesh Acharya, Kay Kay Menon are seen playing the lead roles in the movie. It’s a complete dance film in which all the dance sequences are shot and executed exceptionally well. It’s like a feast for dance lovers with never seen before dance moves and the choreography is the real hero of the movie. Such was its success that it got a sequence in 2015 titled ABCD2 which too was a blockbuster hit.

Lakshmi: Lakshmi is a 2018 Tamil dance film written and directed by A.L. Vijay. The movie has Prabhu Deva, Ditya Bhande, Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead roles. The story of the film revolves around a 10-year-old girl, who lives & breathes dance and has one dream - to win the national level dance competition. The film shows how this little girl struggles in achieving her goals and making her dream come true in spite of the troubles she faces throughout her journey! Lakshmi was shot extraordinarily making each and every scene a hit! The dance moves are carefully choreographed and well presented. I love this film as it’s so inspiring, and I have watched this movie on repeat.

Style: It’s a 2006 Telugu musical dance film written and directed by Raghava Lawrence with Prabhu Deva, Raghava Lawrence, Raja, Charmy Kaur, Kamalinee Mukherjee in the lead roles. This film’s storyline is quite unique, and it showcases how a cleaning boy becomes a dancing champion with his dedication, immense hard work and endless passion for dance along with the help of his dance master and friends. The story has numerous twists and turns that make it a thrilling watch.

These are just a few of my favorites, but there are several other wonderful movies in different languages with dance as the base of the plot in movies!
