Why guys would connect to Geetha Govindam's Vijay?

Many of us love watching movies either in theatres or on television, as they are the most popular source of entertainment. They help in relieving tension and act as an instant stress buster. My husband and I used to watch most of the newly released movies on the first day itself. But after having our baby (17 months now), there is no question of going to theatres as she is super naughty and we do not want to leave her at home with someone else for the sake of a movie. But these days video on demand websites like ZEE5, Amazon Prime Video are of great help for movie lovers like us who do not have time to watch movies in theatres yet hate watching pirated movies, as these websites help us to watch recently released movies with high picture quality at very low subscription charges.

I love to watch movies of different languages and recently saw Geetha Govindam, which is a Telugu romantic comedy movie directed by Parasuram and produced by Bunny Vas. It stars Vijay Devarakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles.

But more than the movie, I would focus this article on its lead actor Vijay Devarakonda and his character in the movie due to the impact he left in the mind.
Why guys would connect to Geetha Govindam's Vijay?
Vijay Devarakonda's character Vijay Govind is characterized in such a way that it has got all the elements like innocence, traditional beliefs, respect towards women etc., that impress all sections of the audience!

The first example that comes to my mind is one of the first scenes in the film where a character played by Anu Emmanuel, offers a handshake to Vijay for wishing him ‘All the best’ but he rejects saying that it’s not a good idea to touch someone else’s wife, which shows his respect towards women in the film.

Through the film, Vijay is seen talking about his ideas about the Telugu culture and ideal qualities that a man and a woman should have. They sound good and later we come to know that his thoughts are influenced by sermons broadcast on religious TV channels. Though naive in nature, Vijay’s ideals stem from good intentions. For example, he says to his friends how he wishes to marry a girl who understands him and his family. When his friends retaliate with opposing ideas, he questions their ideas on love and understanding. This shows that Vijay can be misunderstood at times but at heart, his ideas are husband-goals.

But one quality that truly stands out is how he helps others even if he is troubled. For example, there is a student who has a massive crush on Vijay and wants to date him by hook or by crook. When an act of hers spoils his image in Geetha’s mind, he first goes to the girl to make her understand about her actions as a friend. The way he explains the idea of love to her is both heart-warming and inspiring.

The points I listed above do not really fit into the macho image that actors usually have in movies. But that’s what makes Geetha Govindam’s Vijay different. He is a regular guy who has simple dreams and aspirations regarding his life and future. These dreams and aspirations are accurately depicted in the movie, in a way that guys, especially bachelors would totally connect to Vijay’s character. Not just the audience, even other film stars praised the movie for the emotional punch it packed.

So those were my thoughts on Vijay’s character in Geetha Govindam.

Have you watched Geetha Govindam or similar kind of movie in your language? If yes, please share your thoughts in the comment section!
